Jurisdiction: Uruguay

Uruguay is becoming part of Creative Commons in May 2013, with the initial idea of promoting and extending the Creative Commons licenses in different places of the nation, and also to adapting them to be adequate to the legal system.

The original working team, is composed of 6 people whose experience and affiliation will be detailed.

Vision¶

Uruguay strongly protects the author's rights (copyright) based in a low flexible system, hardened after signing the WTO and WIPO agreements. This system reflects, in a sense, the wish to be taken out of the "black lists", making the international reputation of the country better.

In this context, we share the strong belief that it is becoming more necessary to support an alternative cultural model based in freedom of information and collaboration. This model emphasizes the public interest over individual's, specially in education, art and culture, and it is possible thanks to the Creative Commons licenses.

Simplicity and practicality of CC licenses ease they use as appropriate tool in lots of academic, artistic and cultural initiatives.
